Tarrant County Election – 1850
|
The first election held in Tarrant County was in 1850. Birdville became the County Seat.
People of Fort Worth persuaded the state legislature to
hold a special election in 1856 to declare Fort Worth the County Seat.
Birdville provided a barrel of
whiskey (free) to attract voters. Fort Worth residents stole the barrel of whiskey and
brought it to Fort Worth, providing Fort Worth voters free
whiskey.
Birdville lost the election by
seven votes to Fort Worth in a county seat
election in November 1856 and the Tarrant County Seat was transferred from
Birdville to Fort Worth.
