Daniel Boone was married in the 1870’s to Mary Flanagan, daughter of William and Nancy Pitts Flanagan, who lived on a neighboring farm. They lived several years in the neighborhood known as Boone’s Point. After the birth of three children, the father moved his family to a farm north west of Keller, known now as Christ’s Haven for Children. This became the permanent home of the parents and seven children:
1) Sumpter, born October 1880 and died August 1938. He was married in December 1900 to Callie Neely, born 1883 and died in 1955.
2) Roxie, born in 1882 and died in 1945. She was married in 1901 to Ed Neely, born 1882 and died in 1943.
3) Benton, born in 1887 and died in 1958. He was married in 1914 to Villie Price, born 1893.
4) Allie, born in 1889 and died in 1909. She was married in 1905 to Hall Hardisty, born 1885 and died in 1950.
5) Emmette, born in 1893 and died in 1936. He was married in 1918 to Florence Brown, born in 1893.
6) Madie, born in 1897. She was married in 1916 to Ralph Caldwell, born 1895.
7) Flora, born in 1900. She was married in 1927 to Dean S. Rogers, born 1898 and died in 1964.
Daniel, the father of these children, is remembered as an upstanding citizen, a man of simple habits. After a week of work on the farm, he enjoyed coming to Keller on Saturday, buying a sack of cheese and crackers for refreshments and discussing news and events with friends. He refused to ride in a car and considered motorcycles a ‘work of the Devil’.
