George B. Maddox was born November
4, 1853 in Carlisle County,
Kentucky, the son of Thomas B.
and Betty Litton Maddox. Thomas B.
Maddox was born in Virginia
on August 31, 1828.
Westward migration brought the
family from Virginia to Kentucky.
At the age of four,
George moved with his family by
covered wagon to Missouri,
where he lived until 1875. Betty Maddox
died in Calloway County, Missouri.
When he was twenty two years of age, he came to Tarrant County, Texas
with his father and only sister, Sallie, settling first at Birdville.
Two years later, on August 15,
1877, George was married to fifteen year old Nancy Price Wilkerson, born in Calloway County, Missouri,
November 27, 1861, the daughter of William W. and Cynthia Coons Wilkerson. A year later, the Maddox family came to the
Keller Community and established a home on land known now as the Crawford Dairy. From there they moved to a log house on a
farm which later became the Christ Haven Home for Children. After the sale of this property, another farm
was built on the site of the present day F.C. Ross home. This became the permanent home of the family
remembered as generous neighbors and active members of the Church of Christ.
